Pit Building Steps

Step Description
Check the IRA/BFA in the Project Settings (Utility Menu) or in the View Settings. This can be set manually or imported with a Geotech layer. This allows the pit to be designed using an inter-ramp Angle (IRA) or Bench face angle (BFA).
Add the Base layer. All other available/necessary layers can be added as needed. Toggle the Q or W by clicking blue check box by each).
Activate the Cutter layer in the Layer Menu by clicking on it in the layer menu.
Add the model file and display grade values using the Labels and/or a Legend in the View Settings menu. Make sure the model layer is set to visible.
Tick the Scaler entry box in View Settings or Project Settings. Enter a radius for the Scaler: This is useful for gauging the ramp width. Ramp width is found in the Project Settings, Drawing Window Settings section.
Press the Add Polygons button, once the Drawing Window is at the correct elevation, confirmed by using the Q & W Keyboard Hot keys. When digitizing is complete, double-click.
Use the Modify Features button, to adjust the polygon points. This button enables the addition, deletion, and moving of vertices (Use the Add Curve button to smooth the pit shape).
If you would like a ramp, select 1 or 2 from the Ramp dropdown, then specify their orientations from the #1 and #2 dropdowns in the View Settings.
Use the Choose Feature button to select the pit contour/polygon to expand. Use the Copy Cutter Up Level button or the backtick key ` to expand contours up to the next elevation. Remember to move up to the top most contour using Q to see the newly created contour/polygon.
Modify polylines/vertices as necessary using the Edit Features button for the new contour polygon.
Repeat steps 9-10 until the pit is expanded to the desired size and expands above the topography.
Press the Cut Contour with Cutter/Filler button. This will cut out all cutter layers that are checked as visible in the layer’s menu. If successful, two new layers will automatically populate: BaseResult and CutterResult.
View all layers separately using the All-Contours button in the View Settings section of the Screen Menu, or press the A Hot key.
Save the project (Save Group --> All) using the Export Menu
